Beats By Dr. Dre - Most Overrated Headphones Ever

from Wikipedia

Beats Electronics, LLC is a producer of audio products and equipment headquartered in Santa Monica, California. The company was founded by rapper and hip-hop producer Andre "Dr. Dre" Young and Interscope-Geffen-A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine and primarily produces products under the brand Beats by Dr. Dre. The company has also licensed audio technology to other companies for use in their own products, and also acquired MOG in 2012 to expand into the online music market.

Heaphones that are supposed to make the snobs horny

Everything I think about those headphones and the whole beats by Dr. Dre equipment can be summarized in the following comment I read on YouTube:

The whole idea behind the headphones is to make tons of money using advertisement that only Dr. Dre can provide. It's the same old principle: you take an apple, you clean it, put it in a shiny package and sell it for five times its price. The apple can be bad inside but if it looks great on the outside it will sell well. It's the same thing we see when it comes to Dr. Dre's headphones - great marketing, great packaging, poor sound quality and tons of hype = USD 300 M.

Dr. Dre's headphones are not better than USD 50 headphones. They are even worse because the bass is boosted while the highs and the mids are muffled so that morons "can hear all the music".

Headphones are not supposed to have heavy bass levels. It will damage your ears and in order to reproduce accurate low end the headphone needs to have at least 5' inches diameters and last time I heard those are beats by dre, not beats by Dumbo.

Dr. Dre and his team have boosted the frequency levels at 80-150 and everything else above sounds muffled and far from crisp.

It's all about making money. That's why you see famous artists, DJs, actors..etc wearing Beats by Dr.Dre - most of them are paid to do so and receive a commission because they are actually advertising those headphones.

I think the two videos below tell us a lot regarding the financial side of all that madness:

The Game: ...Dre made like a billion dollars of headphones...I would not give a shit about albums if I made a billion dollars of headphones....

Ice Cube: What would you rather sell somebody - USD 300 headphones or USD 10 tape ?

I think you get the message pretty clear: You are paying for an over hyped, overpriced, low quality piece of crap. If you are a snob go for it:

Lil Wayne wearing USD 1 M dollar
beats by dre headphones with diamonds on them

In case you don't know this is how you get diamonds.

This is the price that has to be paid so that a rapper, Hollywood movie star...etc can wear diamonds and sing/complain/scream about her/his "problems" and former boyfriends/girlfriends.

The funny thing is that Dr. Dre himself will most likely never ever listen to his headphones in the studio (or pretty much anywhere else) because their response is quite far from being "flat" due to the altered bass:
